Projects that need to happen.
1. Justin needs to finish “Don’t Pass That Glass” and his documentary film.
2. Ryan needs to finish “Greedy Little Fingers”
3. Amber needs to create her Origami piece.
What comes next? The doors are wide open and there is very much to do. I’ve talked to a couple of writers about comicbook scripts and movie scripts. Money seems to be the largest problem. Making films is expensive and time consuming. Making GLF put me in a position where I have to go back to a full time job. The self-employed thing just wasn’t working. I realize I’ve approched things from a wrong direction and hopefully I haven’t burnt too many bridges in the process. It feels like I asked for far too many favors creating that film and if wasn’t even finished. A change of method is called for…

With three days of filming Greedy Little Fingers behind me, I’m looking to finish the project as soon as possible. Still on the ‘to do’ on the list is the ending scene, Sylvia’s “dance” sequence and a couple of inserts. The process of movie making is crazy at best. One tries to plan for every twist and turn while filming, but it is impossible to predict every problem that will arise. Despite a few snags, filming went well. Much was accomplished and the footage looked good.
I’ve been told the fee for submitting the film to the Sundance Film Festival is going to be paid for. Now I need to deliver as the director and producer. The deadline for early entry is August 17th, which means Greedy Little Fingers needs to be completely filmed, edited, and ready for sending by then. Wish us luck! If GLF gets entered, then it will be a huge token on the resume of everyone involved.

I have to admit the geek in me wants to see this.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0988045/
Alas, with a release date of December, it looks as though I’ll just have to wait. Robert Downey Jr. stars as the eccentric detective and Jude Law as his assistant Dr. Watson. From the preview, the movie looks about as far removed from the original Sherlock Holmes as Guy Ritchie (The director) could get away with. Still, explosions and one liners aside, Sherlock Holmes has always been a character I wished they would explore again on the big screen. Not since Young Sherlock Holmes in 1985 has there been a movie adaption of Doyle’s classic characters. After the success of Iron Man, (which I was surprised was so enjoyable to watch) Robert Downey Jr. is a good choice for the lead character. Jude Law I am a little less sure of, but I’m willing to hold judgment until I see the movie. Based on graphic novel by Lionel Wigram, the story introduces Irene Adler (played by Rachel McAdams), an adversary of Holmes who once outwitted him. Mark Strong plays Lord Blackwood the satanic villian based on Aleister Crowley. The occult undertones of the movie are right up my alley. Definitely a must see this coming Christmas.

Heya peoples!
Please put your hands together for the latest artist addition to the site: Jessica Strauss! Now I know what you’re thinking: “I’m not going to clap in front of my computer. That’s ridiculous. They can’t even hear me!” While it is true that we cannot secretly tap your computers’ microphones to hear your applause, we CAN feel your love waves. SRSLY.
Regardless, Jessica is someone you should be applauding anyway. You can see her unleashing her powers of comedic writing and performance atLo-Ball,Laff-Hole, and ShowGaZm. She also designs costumes for local theater productions and has collaborated with us in a variety of capacities (see theBio page for more info on those capacities).
So please, send her some love waves and check out her shows!

Oh how long we have pined for this! Obscura Labs officially has an office and studio space! If one condensed all the high-fructose corn syrup in existence into a hyperdimensional crystal, it would still not be as sweet as this. Check out some pics of our new digs below:

Seamless white wall, black backdrop, green screen, a nice chill couch, and a stereo. This battle station is fully operational. Word.

For those who haven’t seen the stop motion Justin and I did on Sunday night, here the video of it. Consider this a sneak peek at the direction and feel Obscura Labs is going.
Though just a quick one, it helped us learn some methods and editing tools. I think the next one will happen in two weekends. We’ll be trying a longer peice this next time with a more difficult set up. Keep watching!

Friends, well-wishers, and people who have fortuitously stumbled upon this sector of the Intar Webz, after months of digital toil it is my distinct fuzzy pleasure to welcome you to the official launch of ObscuraLabs.com.
Finally, we have an online home where we can show you the fruits of our creative efforts, keep you up to date on our projects–and if you’re so inclined–a place where you can support our conspiracy of awesome.
For those of you less familiar with our wheelings and dealings, a bit of an introduction is in order. Obscura Labs is a collective of filmmakers, illustrators, photographers, musicians, performers, and artists who have been collaborating on various projects since about 2005. Our artists’ work has been featured at film festivals, on album covers, on people’s bodies, and various club venues in Seattle. And now dear netizens, we bring our work to you over the series of tubez so that our photons can dance for the ocular enjoyment of all.
So please, take a look around, enjoy the sights, and keep an eye out for more scintillating wonders and hideous monstrosities.
